Last Stand of the Knights of St. John
In 1522 after a bloody siege. The Knights of St.John were evicted from their island base on
Rhodes,
by the forces of the ottoman ruler, Suleiman the Great. Homeless for many years, they travelled
the courts of europe, until given the island of Malta, by the holy roman emperor
Charles V,
for the payment of a Maltese Falcon every year. Here they prepared to make their final stand.
